Dance Meditation: A Journey of Movement and Connection with Our Deepest Parts

In our fast-paced world, it’s essential to engage in practices that align our bodies with our subtle energies. Becoming mindful of our movements and our thoughts, emotions, and choices is crucial.

Bombarded by a technology-driven society, it’s easy to forget the importance of being the creators of our experiences. At Damanhur, we offer various practices that help us align our energies, and we would like to share the Dance Meditation with you here. Find the video below, and as you scroll, you can discover the unusual story behind its creation.

The movements silently speak a prayer that can be translated as: “I, on this day, open myself and unite with faith to others, to the divine, to the sun and all that surrounds me in a sacred and alchemical way towards the reawakening of humanity. I receive divine protection and wisdom with this prayer.”

We would love to hear your thoughts and experiences regarding this Dance Meditation. @lepre will be glad to hear from you.

In case you love the music from the video, made by @zigola and @assapan, you can listen to it on Spotify.

A Peculiar Story Behind the Creation of This Dance

Several months after his passing (which occurred in June 2013), the Damanhurians discovered that the Founder Falco had left them a long series of letters proposing missions for everyone to undertake worldwide, to create connections and alliances with all forms of life, and among all those who desire the awakening and growth of humanity as a whole. You can read the last received letter here. (It’s beautiful :))

In one of these letters, Falco invited a particular group called Sacred Dancers to create a dance meditation, a practice for the subtle bodies designed to relax both body and mind while attuning us to the rhythms of nature. Here is an excerpt from the letter.

The Letter from Falco

To the dancers, I assign you the task of creating a dance meditation, an exercise for the subtle bodies like Tai Chi, for relaxing the body and mind and getting attuned with nature. It will be useful for a particular labyrinth of the Sacred Woods Temple, for all of you too, and for pilgrims. It can be done in the morning after you wake up, or in preparation for the sunset exercises, or whenever you feel it is appropriate. The movements are fluid and simple so that both the elderly and younger people can do it. It must be like flowing water—a single, slow movement. At each pause, take a deep breath, and during the movement release the breath. Keep a colored thread in mind—one that changes color every five movements. You can create the sequence, giving it meaning. Ask those who do color therapy. Everything must have a sense—not an aesthetic one but a deep one full of meaning. You must teach it to the Spiritual Popolo—simple and effective.

The Description of the Dance

This dance, as requested by Falco, has been crafted by a dedicated group of Sacred Dancers and Alchemical Metratura practitioners (including Lepre, Ara, Chiocciola, Tucano, Falabella, Carpa, Vigogna, Cavalletta, Jacana, Aracne, and Tursiope).

It is open to anyone who wants to explore it. This dance offers multiple layers of interpretation. It can be practiced during your daily spiritual practice or before rituals or in situations where centeredness and mental clarity are essential. The dance operates on physical, subtle, and spiritual dimensions.

There are connections and points of inspiration from other philosophies, such as elements derived from the Vaju of Indian tradition, Qigong, and Tai Chi.

The movements are associated with five colors that can be expressed through your fingers as you “draw” with your gestures. You may begin facing north while imagining a connecting thread. Then rotate to the right and repeat the dance five times. This dance is accessible even to those with physical limitations; its fundamental aspects focus on arm movements, breath control, and presence.

Connection of Movements with the Elements

  • Air: Opening arms in an upward direction.
  • Water: Push forward and pull back like a wave; all movements fluid and slow like flowing water.
  • Earth: Hands pointing downwards towards the earth; drawing a downward-pointing triangle.
  • Fire: Hands pointing upwards; drawing an upward-pointing triangle.
  • Ether: The union of all elements—the entire dance embodies creativity and artistic expression.

Engaging with Subtle Bodies

This dance also connects with our subtle bodies through various geometries:

  • Double Pyramid: Arms form upward- and downward-pointing triangles.
  • Cylinder: Created through hand movements during rotation.
  • Aura: Formed by a set of threads connected to our energy centers that create overlapping networks around us like an egg around the body.

*What is Sacred Dance?

The Sacred Dance is a particular branch of Sacred Language. The Sacred Language was introduced by Falco Tarassaco, and it is a form of language based on phonetic pronunciation, ideogrammatic symbols and movement (dance). According to Falco’s teaching, this is an archetypal language that dates back to an era when humankind had a mastery over the deep meanings and values of life. In a mythical interpretation, the Sacred Language is the language spoken by humans before Babel. Every concept in the Sacred Language is expressed by an ideogram, a spoken word and a Sacred Dance movement that carries the same meaning. The language can be written, drawn, spoken, sung and danced. In Damanhur, where this language is studied, it is widely used for composing songs and as a decorative element in the halls of the Temples of Humankind and in prayer halls. The Sacred Dance is used in ritual celebrations, and it is also present in popular dances.
